The day after we received this jacket the weather dropped to 24 with medium wind the wind chill factor was 18 my wife said that jacket kept her warmer than some of her more expensive jackets

The hood surrounds your head entirely blocking any gusts from the side it negates peripheral vision but i think the tradeoff is fair
