Pros

Round story, with just enough suspense to shove the reader into the sequel. Very enjoyable read with some good plot twists.

Great opening to a new series. Looking forward to the next installment. Decent character development, little bit at a time. Kai is young enough that he does not think to use the ai resources he has.

Well paced and decently gritty when needed. A great book.

Cons

The surroundings, the world, the different mechanics at work in this world is not described (at all) then travelling through hyperspace directly from a planet's surface. Gratuitous, poorly chosen metaphors. Stopped less than halfway through.
