If the sensor or display break, the bike is still totally usable. It's not that noisy at all. The first one we bought is significantly different and it can be noisy, but it's mainly due to the plastic rubbing against the metal.

From reading as many reviews as possible prior to deciding on a spin bike my biggest concern with the 490 spx was going to be the noise

This spin bike is very quiet and i had no problem whatsoever hearing the television with the volume set at 25 out of 100

With increased resistance there is some friction noise but not enough to turn tv up

On occasion a vibration noise develops in part of the mechanism that connects the tension adjustment knob to the felt pads
