I already own three manfrotto heads but was looking for a small ball head for a newly purchased joby gorillapod slrzoom and after looking at the available heads from manfrotto and others i decided to break from the safe ground of manfrotto and buy this after all it was under thirteen pounds so not a financial disaster if it turned out to be useless

In fact my general impression is that the unit is very professional and for the want of a logo or sticker would probably pass as one of the more expensive branded items

The slide plate is released by first switch a small silver locking pin and then flipping the top lever
