The instructions say this as well but i did not read the instructions before tinkering with it and i could not screw the described screws back in i had to cut the spring and disassemble the entire thing to get the screws back into place and i had to replace the spring with something else

To adjust the upper arm only loosen the intended screws very little only enough to move the arm up or down then tighten
