Be sure to clean after each use i imagine build up is what caused other reviewers to mention the screen smoking

This is a great splatter screen in that it is heavy enough to stay steady on top of your pot it seems the screen will not pull away from the frame any time soon as my spatter screens of the past have done

Seems to be well built it has metal supports on one side so you can set it down and not have the screen surface touch the countertop

My last few splatter screens have just fallen apart after a couple years of use the last one somehow developed a large split in the too fine mesh screen
