No the character relationships wont overwhelm you and theres only brushstrokes of atmosphere instead of fullblown paintings but finder is writing a thriller after all

My only criticism is by the end of the novel the plot dynamic of why all of this happened became convoluted overshadowed by the characters need to save himself and just plain boring
