It has a lovely blue led light when on and a red led light when charging

After playing with it for a few minutes i worked out that what this does is increase the volume of the sound but without the lack of quality

Im also told that because it has its own power source that it reduces the power consumption on the device making it ideal for listening to music from your mobile phone or ipod
