So we called the repair man and he fixed a faulty pilot light which was causing gas to leak for approximately 30 second before igniting

I read that some people put it directly by an unlit turned on gas burner which the directions tell you not to do as that will essentially fry the tool

It pin pointed the regulator including the actual location on the regulator where the fault was

Its far more convenient than messing around with soapy water and also more reliable because you often cannot see the entire fitting you want to check for instance if a gas bubble forms on the back side of the fitting being tested the leak will go undetected but this tool will sniff out the leak regardless
