Id prefer the locking mechanism to be more secure as you can pull the mount out without unlocking it without too much force and it doesnt seem possible to tighten the screw enough to stop any movement of the camera so it will move if you are really jumping around this ends up being handy if you want to check the screen or change settings though and is not an issue if you arent mounting camera direct to it
