I have tried the cheaper hand held and while they do get the slides onto the computer the quality and software features are not great
It works well with the plustek hardware and provides good tools like the workflow pilot system

Cant fault the scanner but the bundled software is poor cranky not intuitive and difficult to configure

However the silverfast 8 software has issues

My scanner was supplied with version 8 of the software

It is this software that is the source of the not so good parts in this combination

Silverfast just does not remember your choices so you are constantly reentering the same answers to the same prompts

The image selection box should not be reset at the start of every prescan as we are likely to be working with batches of slides in identical mounts and we should not have to select the folder to store the scanned image in everytime we write an image to disk
