Pros

The explorer is a nicely put together pen. I currently have it loaded with sailor yukiakari as seen in the pictures. My only complaint is the excessive packaging.

The pen comes with a large pilot cartridge and a con-70 converter. It comes with one black ink cartridge so the recipient can use it right away. You can use ink syringes to refill converters easily.

As usual with japanese nibs, it is finer than a european nib. And the nib is pilots signature nib, they write very well.

The cap closes smoothly like a prera. The cap posts securely.

Pilot's iroshizuku kon-peki (cerulean blue) ink is a fantastic shade of blue. The pink is very pretty and jewel toned.

Cons

Pen feels light and cheap for $26. Old-style 78gs, metro, vpoint disposables, have better f nibs than this.

The snap-on top barely stays on the plastic body. It pops off easily and i've found the pen loose in my shirt, staining it. Was able to return that one fortunately. I'm returning this one immediately.

It’s worth the 10 just be sure to watch some youtube videos about how to fill it up

Of course it is a great writer for the money

Often with inexpensive fountain pens the nibs are scratchy when you move it across the page but not this one

On days when my hands hurt and id still like to use a fountain pen this one is my top choice

Im going to refill the cartridge after it empties while i wait for it to arrive

Competitiveness

I have also have two 34luxury34 brand pens and i must say the pilot writes as well or even better than those two pens

The other pen in a similar price range that is as nice is the platinum plaisir

I have a lamy boxiti and waterman from same price range

The explorer is so much more fun to use compared to the metro
