If you have ever used a retractable leash you know the concept of this leash

However when you lock it it limits how far away they can go

Many times with retractable leashes you lock it and the dog starts heading back toward you and the slack gets tangles around them or you or you have to keep unlocking and locking the leash to gather it

Once the leash is locked it continues retracting and locking on its own as you get closer to your dog
