They are soooo smooth. If you happen to have a nice art store that carries these its better buying of each and then it makes more sence. My intention is to use these with my son who is a middle schooler.

They show up at exactly the boldness you want them to in pencil drawings. They are fine for writing. Great for crossword puzzles.

Cons

It is no smoother than a prismacolor ebony prismacolors premier ebony graphite sketching pencil. I have to use an x-acto blade to get a workable point and that was not my goal.
