The book makes a fine adventure story, even if it is scientifically inaccurate. Scholars have many takes on this novel and its themes. And competently written. Some quotes to tweak your interest.
In all the ways that they are not “human” they show the brokenness of our human society. Revisiting this classic 50 years later was fun. They are fun but paint a wise vision of relations between individuals, societies, and mankind as a whole.
The three earthlings who have arrived on malacandra show their level of straightness or bentness as this story unfolds. Bent creatures are full of fears. Each planet has its own oyarsa, satan, the bent one.
