When i opened it it did have a bit of a chemical smell but it aired out within 24 hours of laying it out

The rug is exactly as pictured very soft and didnt roll up to much on the ends when initially unrolled

I will say its hard to get every speck of dust out of it even with a vacuum cleaner but thats because its very thick and shaggy so stuff gets trapped down inside it
