Pros
These units communicate with each other via bluetooth. It also helps if you have a strong wifi and bluetooth network within your home. The bluetooth link to the homekit home hubs (ble) is always on, though.
These devices tick all of those boxes, and they blend unobtrusively into the ceiling. The voice announcements are similar to what i am accustomed to with the nest, although the sound quality is not as crisp.
Setup your np's all in one place in close proximity before mounting. Mounting is straightforward and the moment you twist the detector onto the mount, the detector comes to life speaking to start the setup.

There is a major issue with these and firstalert needs to address them or reimburse the hundreds of dollars they cost. The manufacture has the market locked up.
No sound. No led lights. Last updated one week ago. Without the announcement i am not sure how to even know which one is the culprit.
It takes multiple attempts to physically silence the unit. Disconnect it from the wired, nothing. Find a screw driver and disconnect main battery supply - ahhh relief and silence. Fyi, it’s still chirping away in the trash can in the am.

I packaged one up to return and then gave the one on the vaulted ceiling one last try before getting out the extension ladder again

My detectors are hard wired so a bit more work for me to extend the wiring to additional bedrooms in an existing house

I have also installed 2 of the these detectors that are the battery powered model in areas where it would just be impossible to wire without needing to rip out drywall and the battery model interface and work seemlessly with the wired model

The smoke detectors in my house are hardwired and 16 feet off of the ground
