In my experience each time a regular iron is placed on its heel it gives off a plume of steam that wastes its water supply the itouch feature neatly circumvents this problem

If you have to walk away quickly you wont burn your fabric because it picks itself up off the item as soon as you let go of the handle

It shuts off automatically if i walk away and get sidetracked
