In my experience each time a regular iron is placed on its heel it gives off a plume of steam that wastes its water supply the itouch feature neatly circumvents this problem

As i found out the hard way if youre foolish like me and pour the water in while the iron is still on i go through the water pretty quickly when ironing wrinkly clothes the struts will pop out while youre doing it startle you and the water will spill all over the place p

To me this is still a better situation than the struts constantly popping in and out every time you release the iron which im sure is not easy on the struts
