One of the big downsides for this appliance is that like with the foodsaver the branded bags are pretty pricy
Packaging/appearance
The bags are really heavy duty and can stand up to a lot of reusing
Also the bags are easy to clean and reuse
But its hard to think of reusing this for entirely different batches of stuff
The biggest way to mitigate that is by reusing the bags so you will have to factor how often you are likely to do so into your calculations
Competitiveness
First the food print of the machine is much smaller than my foodsaver model which is great if you dont have a lot of storage space
I use a lot of ziplock bags even though i have a different sealer
It is actually a combination of the two foodsaver products
I have owned a number of foodsaver vacuum sealers including one private labelled for sears
