Used these on 75 year old hardwoods. My hardwood floors were crazy squeeky but, bit-by-bit, as i carefully drive these in, they are very much quieter.
Pre-drilling through the finish floor and into a joist is a must. Make sure to separate the fibers to make way for drilling the 1/8 hole and make sure the fibers aren't getting wound into the drill bit.

Putting the screws in the floor wont necessarily get rid of the squeaking because its possibly the way your floor were constructed
