There is a snow depth however where they start to loose traction and it feels like you are skiing your bike without edges

In fact you will have better traction on the steeps in snow and ice then you would have on dry dirt

I rode my 29er home from work on a sidewalk that was a high traffic area by a college the snow had meltedto slush and refrozen with massive ruts footprints and pretty much 3 inches of really rough textured ice
