I had a problem with my new virgin tivo box after installing it in an enclosed cabinet on top of a dvd recorder the temperature above it was well over 50c which didnt seem healthy

The result is a temperatue at the top of the tivo which has no fan but relies on large ventilation slots of a much more acceptable 35c

The noise produced by the fan at this speed is such that in a near silent room i have to get my ear directly in front of the cabinet and within about 1m to hear it at all

In conclusion then i think this fan is about as quiet as it is possible to be given that its purpose is to move air

I bought a netgear ready nas nv 4 bay gigabit desktop network storage and the fan that came with it was very loud constant sound in the background this was bad because we live in a studio and the girlfriend was never going to let it be on all the while
