Pros

The 18-55 lens is a well worthwhile upgrade over the kit lens. It's important to use an aperture relative to the subject being photographed. The nikon has just a touch more contrast at f2. Although a lot of zoom lens cover the 24mm range, nothing beat...  Read More

It feels great, looks great, but more importantly delivers nice pics. The only issue is that it's prone to flare. That's not a big issue but it was frequent enough to mention.

It renders delicious colors and incredibly smooth skin (even with my 50 gazillion pixel d800) this is on my camera almost always. It is ideal for landscapes if you want to include an interesting foreground.

On a digital slr such as the d70 or d2x, the 24mm lens gives you the same degree of coverage as a 35mm lens on a film camera. However, on dx, 35mm gives you a field of view close to 50mm on a full frame camera. This 24mm has a focal length/width of a ...  Read More

Great buying experience lens in likenew condition as advertised quick seller response to inquiries and quick shipping

Competitiveness

On a fullframe d700 the pictures are sharp even wide open at f2

I have used this on both a nikon d700 fx full frame camera and a nikon d700 dx camera on which it is effectively a 42mm lens

Now as some have mentioned it is a 22 year old design that on a 24mp dx sensor will begin to show its age

I was thinking about getting an offbrand lens with a 1

But my sigma 1770 is basically identical at 24mm especially at f5

However the nikkor 24mm is of course far lighter and smaller and will work on fx35mm cameras whereas the sigma is for cropped sensors only

Im sure its even better on fx

Unfortunately nightime shots are its weakness

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Internal reflections inside the l3ns make nightime shots subpar

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Update 121913this lens on fx is much more limiting it is just too wide for anything except incredibly tight indoor shots and outdoor landscape shots

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

If you are looking for a more general prime lens and have an fx camera look elsewhere
