You can put it back but theres no way to permanently keep it inserted without falling all the way into or out of the cat any time you squeeze the toy which is nearly impossible to avoid considering its made of soft silicone

Another reason i wasnt too happy about it not the manufacturers fault in any way was that the white light mode has two brightness levels and the brighter one is crazy bright when youre in a pitch black room with the toy in your face
