I place it just about a fret width behind the fret

It is very low profile on the string side and a bit higher on the back of the neck where the locking and adjusting mechanism are

It makes it a bit harder to land certain open chords up near the nut now the capo where you need to wrap your hand behind the neck like an open e7 or dm

The shubb capo applies even pressure to the strings which keeps retuning to a minimum
