You should go ahead and buy the brass screw in filter drain and throw the plastic things away

Only thing i realized after getting was that it was the first time i have ever bought filters that did not come with crush washers

However it is more messy then a cartridge type oil filter and i may in the future by an adapter which allows me to use a cartridge type filter
