Pros & Cons
Pros
You know you are in the hands of a masterful story teller when that is your reaction after an 800 page read. A very plausible plot with interesting characters.
This novel shows us the folly of greed, of hubris, of lack of care for mankind. The first & second person to succeed to the presidency in the event of the president's death or incapacity is obviously important.
Cons
It has the basic ingredients, but they are barely cooked. Why is that comical? It boils down to the simple concept of “suspension of disbelief’. Beyond that the written story is too flimsy.
I wonder if this story was ghost-written for follett. I am not very familiar with ken follett's books but not sure that i want to delve any further if this is what he churns out.
This is quite sad and shameless. How disappointing. Even assuming you have incompetents everywhere, the logic is flawed. It's tedious and highly irrelevant.

The story begins very slowly with multiple character development necessary but somewhat tedious leaving readers wondering when the intrigue and action will begin

My rating reflects not on the exemplary content of the novel but on the ending which in my view detracts and disappoints the readers commitment to the book and expectation of a resolution albeit controversial and utopian
