Pros & Cons
Pros
Greene was a close friend of philby's sis, who was also a friend of greene's. Philby is the main character in greene's novel, and is a major character in the book.
Cons
Kim philby knew no loyalty to family, friend or foe. Philby has much more to say about every day office politics than anything about espionage.
Added to that mix is his overtly snide contempt for his readers.
Highlights
Quality
And so his autobiography reeks with the conviction of a man who is certain in his own mind that his actions were honorable
This book is filled with philbys concerns with the quotidian world of administration setting up an office and getting it properly staffed
While i sympathize with the disappointment it’s important to observe that the book acquaints the reader with philby’s enigmatic personage
