Elmer elevator packed the exact number of each item that he was going to need to overcome each obstacle he would encounter - the various animals he would encounter on the mysterious island he was exploring.

The cat, in gratitude, tells the boy something exciting -- there is an island far away where a baby dragon lives, being held captive by a gang of lazy and cruel animals who use him as a ferry across a raging river.

The cover illustration even looks like it was resized a bit too large.

Additionally, the pictures are well-placed so that if anything happens that kids might find scary (like elmer meeting hungry tigers in my father's dragon) there is a picture that shows that everything is okay on that same page.
