The ha1a has a less controlled and somewhat boomy bass through the akg k701s especially in triode mode

Switching the ha1a to ultralinear mode controls the bass more although it is still slightly boomy but at the cost of losing the wellrounded midrange and belllike clarity and resonance in the treble provided by triode mode

True the vcan does not have that gorgeous rounded midrange and treble tone provided by the ha1a in triode mode but for me the boomy bass overwhelms the midrange and treble beauty in the ha1a so that i prefer the more balanced sound of the vcan

In this case the ha1a sounds better

The vcans are very clear and well focused with the koss esp950s but the bass although not exactly thin lacks the authority and impact provided by the ha1a and the midrange and treble lack the 3d roundness provided by the ha1a
