Very well organised with clear and concise explanations. Not easy but then neither is the subject if you really want to get to grips with the intricacies. A very in-depth informative view of all aspects of music.
Extraordinary book, very detailed and even mathematical. Looking forward to purchasing the second book in the series. Very good read for music theory.
First nice clear illustrations, and plenty of them. And to respond to one of the other reviewers. Brilliant for learning and as a future reference.

I find it quite irresponsible to try and cram everything from beginner to expert into one book. Not well written and no written notation. I flicked through it when i ordered it but what i saw in the pages, most of it has no pictures of music notation.... Read More

Throughout this book the definite and indefinite article are frequently dropped so i found myself constantly being tripped up by the an a being missing

Secondly the early section on music theory fundamentals contains a discussion of the physics of sound and pitch which could have been more concisely and better written

There are eight notes in an octave but it consists of 12 semitones or 6 tones
