Pros

Music for wartime is an impressive collection which i heartily recommend. It's one i will look forward to having on my bookshelf and revisiting for years to come. I'm a big fan of reading a story in between other books as a sort of palate cleanser.

The stories vary in length from a page or two to more than thirty pages. Just like a box of gourmet chocolates, when you dip into this short story collection, one is never enough. Kind of like a midafternoon snack, that is how i see short stories.

    Makkai is clearly experimenting with the short story form and her forays into fantasy such as couple of lovers on a red background are not particularly successful
