The gaiter is soft, stretchy material that protects the neck from sun. We use it biking and hiking as the current protocol to pass others masked if conditions place you within six feet is much easier with a gaiter than a mask that goes around the ears. It stays on neck so is infinitely flexible for pandemic protocol, and washes/dries well. We do not have air conditioning so we also use it as a cooling device when temperatures rise, though it is less breathable as a mask when wet unless you double the gaiter over the mouth. We love ours and wear them every day. Highly recommend if you are an outdoor enthusiast who wants to be prepared.  Read Less
