It turns smoothly and is quite mesmerizing. It's a wonderful red revolving sphere that inspires and impresses.

Cons

There are 3 seams (one significant one around the equator) where they assemble the globe. The globe would only turn on the very brightest of light coming into the room. Sent it back to amazon almost immediately, utterly disgusted.
