The black x as shown in the photos is hard slick plastic

The gray cutouts that leave the x are textured tiny crosshatched areas but are still fairly hard plastic

My idealworld hope was for softer almost tacky rubberized material to minimize the chance the phone might slip out of pockets

I should also note that this case rises approximately 332nds of an inch above the face of the phone creating a protective rim all around in case i absentmindedly set the phone down facedown
