A lot of the hydroton available online is all broken up by the time you get it

If you get mold you cant get rid of it have to get new hydroton

They do require cleaning before use but there are not many broken pieces and the rocks seem neither too large or too small for my plants

The sizes are not terribly uniform and there are a number of smaller broken pieces that almost are able to fit through my hydroponic pots but not quite

They come coated in pepple dust so you have to rinse them all off or youll end up with murky water or tons of sediment

I would place these on the bottom put a mesh screen on top fit to size some carbon atop that some beneficial soil substrate then maybe some moss

Some other reviews are stating they received something other than hydroton brand clay pebbles but im happy to say i received actual hydroton brand from hydro galaxy
