The above review is my own unbiased opinion. It’s a long slow read, but a rewarding one. I find them perfect for reading on an ereader while using a treadmill.
Erin kelly describes this book as beautifully written. The main plot is pretty straightforward.

Steiner presents a pretty bleak story but with such style and eloquence that you can’t help but be captivated. The writing is top-notch, and steiner uses it especially well to bring nuance to characters.
Cons
The mystery is mildly interesting--enough that i flipped to the end. Less than 10% of the novel is regarding the mystery and the rest is pretty pointless and uninteresting. The solution in the end is unsatisfying.

I didnt like all the nonamerican terms used one could spend a lot of reading time looking up terms used in that country i wouldnt only like it if i were the writer and trying to make the book longer

If it were simply a very wellwritten story of the missing glamorous daughter of a quite prominent physician in particular his wife how their daughters disappearance turns her world inside out and the detectives assigned to the case that would be reason enough to recommend this book

It is not a great police procedural and you dislike almost every person in it except miriam and fly

Personal issues make it hard for detectives to stay close on the trail and trying to help involved families complicate things further
