If you move too quickly the element will not have time to melt the plastic bag and fuse it together but if you move too slowly it will just melt through the bag and not seal

While this item works very well on the type of plastic that chip bags and most frozen food bags come in i would not recommend this product for bread bags as the plastic is very thin and soft and it will be pretty impossible to get it to seal correctly
