For both devices be very careful not to scratch the lcd and make sure it is clean of any debris before gluing the digitizer screen back down

If you are careful and are somewhat handy doing a screen replacement yourself will save quite a bit of money

I also found that it was necessary to use a razor blade to pry the screen off because it is very tight to the edge of the ipad

After a quick google search i found that you have to do a hard restart hold down home button and power button until ipad restarts
