You have to put it on the lowest setting 1 others you can burnscorch things on setting 2 wished they had a 1

The default setting is 5 which is too high for anything other than searing meat

One thing you can not do is move the pan around a lot the unit beeps and if you persist such as the continuous shaking of a kettle while popping corn you will ruin the unit

If youre unsure about your cookware see if a magnet will stick to the bottom of the pan
