Build quality is not particularly impressive but not too bad either i guess this is what one can expect for this price

Competitiveness

I have been using a manfrotto mvk500am kit for some years and will compare it to that

Well made and works well with olympus em5 and 14150 kit lens

I use a sony a6300 mirrorless camera

I bought it to use with a sony fdrax53 on an old manfrotto 190xprob tripod that wasnt getting much use

The only downside is that when tightening the pan movement screw it isnt quite tight enough for me to unscrew the head off of my slider

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

First you only have locked or unlocked for the pan leftright and tilt updown you cannot add drag to the movement

Second there is no counterweight meaning that tilting a heavier camera is a bit more difficult

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Third and this is my biggest disappointment the tilt lock doesnt hold well enough for heavier camerarigs

My a6300 is fine with any lens combination but with a 5 inch monitor on top the rig was quite top heavy and the tiltlock didnt hold securely

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

I believe the mvh400a head is fine with longer lenses if balanced but handles topheavy rigs poorly

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Beginners can easily get the smooth pans and tilts and pros can probably work around the issue of top heaviness

Plate has a quicklock tightening system which prevents your camera from falling
