I bought it primarily because my laptop has only 3 ports 2 of which are right next to one another and if you use one chances are theres no room to plug something in to the adjacent port

Although what it will do for you is this if you stick the bottom of the hub to the top of your desk the hub wont tip when you have a lot of usb devices plugged in
