I am 510 and 175180 34x32 typical jean size and the medium fit well over loose heavy cargo shorts and just long enough to not drag
Have not tried them in those conditions but no reason not to believe they wont work
The medium did not have a lot of extra material so i feel like a large would have been manageable fit at my size too but the medium would be of course lighter and smaller packed size
