The mesh works well and it takes a little work to tie the plants in correctly however once they are in the mossy look appears to be like a small lawn

The edges are sharp but if buried under gravel or substrate and with good growth the edges have presented no hazard to my fish

I cut out a circle with wire cutters and curled the edges down with pliars placed it in the bottom of a jar

Ive tied a couple things to them and hot glued others to these screens then sunk them into the tank and covered the screens with rocks so you cant see them and they stay sunken
