Good quality these are brass compression fittings they attach one size tube 38 to another size tube 12 by squeezing a donutshaped ring called an olive ferrule or compression ring to each pipe so you have a bump you can grab onto with the screw nuts to screw the transition body between the different size pipes and hopefully not leak
