Our three main characters are ralph, piggy, and jack - all of which play integral parts to the story's ultimate outcome. Jack’s conflict with the group stems from his warmongering and savage-like anger.



Cons

The publishers truncate the original manuscript, cutting nearly the first fifth or third off the book. The conch is gone--’ (golding 142). I suspect that this is one of the editing problems that crept up behind chopping off the first third.

Many of the boys in this book are arrogant and don’t seem to worry much about being stuck on an island with no way to leave. About 2/3s of the way through the book a downed pilot enters the picture.

I wish i had splurged for the kindle version, though it cost nearly twice as much. Quality of the hardcover is not worth anywhere near the $17 price tag. The kindle edition is also sloppy.

    This in turn causes the meaning behind the fire to be lost with conflict arising as ralph desperately tries to remind the group of that meaning but to no avail
