The narrative is more laid back and conversational, not so much about teaching, as the many learning experiences the author had while teaching in two schools in yokohama. The writing pedigree and experience as a blogger shines through each story.
A good book for me is one that grabs you, entertains you and makes you think. Loco is an intelligent writer and educator. Yes it is a series of vignettes as most blog derived books are.

I was expecting him to bring us to some grand unifying theory of why life in japan is the way it is for foreigners but in the end it was his own life that he sorted out
