The way the engine is designed makes damaging the crank shaft a possibility if using a screwdriver or punch to remove the seal.

This tool worked perfectly, it took longer to remove it from the package than it took to remove the seal.

Don’t waste your time with diy seal pullers.

Necessary for the specific job of seal removal from between the shaft and housing.

I unsuccessfully tried a couple other methods of removing the 19 year old front crank and cam seals without luck from my nb miata.

One tip that helped me too on all of the 5 seals i pulled first try in about 3 minutes, i didn't actually slip the hook between the seal and the cam on the ones that seal to the cam itself.

My seals weren't super hardened, so i poked the hook into the rubber and around the internal spring in the seal so the metal hook never touched the cam or anything.

I sharpened mine with a dremel, but it probably would've worked without doing that too.
