The inside is light colored for ease in judging the browning of sautéed veggies and it cleans easily with a little scrubbing with a sponge but the outside enamel is quite fragile compared to their dutch ovens it will chip off the handle or the base with normal accidental contacts with other pots and pans exposing the bare metal beneath

Its sturdy feels heavyduty though not like iron of course and served me well until a recent crosscountry move when it apparently got banged on an outside bottom corner i had a criminally negligent moving company but thats another story which chipped enamel off of that corner but also caused a chunk of enamel to chip off of the interior at the same spot
